Dr. Rachel McEwen
Dr. Rachel McEwen is originally from Eastern Ontario, but the twisting path of life has led her to Nova Scotia. She received her B.Sc in Animal Biology from the University of Guelph, then completed her DVM at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2018. Upon graduation, she completed an intensive internship at Rhinebeck Equine in New York where she developed her equine skills alongside specialists in surgery, internal medicine, theriogenology, and ophthalmology. “Dr. Rachel” then worked in an equine practice in the Ottawa area until 2022. Rachel has felt at home working with the horse people of Nova Scotia since her first days with Fundy in 2023. From the top performers to the smallest “pasture puffs”, she likes helping every patient feel their best. Rachel has a soft spot for seniors and foals, and has always enjoyed reproductive cases.
Rachel lives with her husband Jaidonn, toddler Phaidra, and baby Zenith. They share the house with goofy Labrador, Dipper, and spicy kitty, Cleo. She has a retired Thoroughbred, Buddy, whose impressive carpal injury set her on the path to becoming an equine veterinarian.
Rachel is a tea enthusiast and a chocolate lover. She likes reading, and is grateful for the invention of the e-reader and audiobook so that she can still read late at night and on the road between calls. She has gotten back into riding for fun and hopes her kids will one day share her love of horses
